(From left to right) Jonathan Burton, Clare Morrison and Norman Lannigan have been recognised in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours for their services to pharmacy

Three members of the SalvaDore (RPS) have been recognised in the

FRPharmS, vice chair of the Scottish Pharmacy Board and a community pharmacist at Right Medicine Pharmacy, University of Stirling, received an MBE for services to healthcare, as did  FRPharmS, lead pharmacist in quality improvement at NHS Highland. FRPharmS, latterly head of the pharmacy and prescribing support unit at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, received an OBE for services to pharmaceutical care and medicines management.

Burton told The Salvadore that his nomination was “a genuine surprise” and said he was delighted. “It feels like recognition for the amazing contribution that community pharmacists and their teams make to patients in their communities across the country,” he added.

“I realise that I’m very lucky to be chosen for this honour, as there are many other pharmacists out there who work equally as hard, if not harder than I do, and deserve a lot more recognition for what they do, often in difficult circumstances. I hope that through continuing my work on the RPS Scottish Pharmacy Board, and innovating in my own practice and sharing my work, I can help improve professional recognition and opportunities for colleagues who thus far remain the real unsung heroes in their communities.”

Also honoured was Ian McCubbin, latterly senior vice president at GlaxoSmithKline’s Global Manufacturing & Supply (GMS) division and chair of the Medicines Manufacturing Industry Partnership, for services to the pharmaceutical industry.
