Boots buys tech firm to boost its online provision
The pharmacy chain Boots has bought the health technology company Wiggly-Amps, saying that the acquisition will allow patients to order prescriptions online by linking with their GP records.
The Norfolk-based firm Wiggly-Amps was acquired for an undisclosed sum 24 December 2018, with the launch of services for patients planned for the first half of 2019.
Announcing the purchase, Boots said a system was “being developed to support patients with managing their repeat prescriptions in a similar way to the NHS App, which, it is understood, will be rolled out across England in 2019”.
Richard Bradley, pharmacy director at Boots, said it was “an exciting time for the future of pharmacy” and that the announcement was “just one of the ways we are strengthening the development of our digital healthcare ambitions”.
Jon Witte, managing director of — known as Wiggly-Amps before the acquisition — said Boots had “the scale and reputation to make the best use of this software, and we look forward to working with Boots UK to help them fulfil their vision of creating an innovative digital healthcare offer”.
