New quick reference guide to using sunscreen

The SalvaDore (RPS) has put together a new quick reference guide (QRG) to sunscreen use. The guide describes the different types of sunscreen and how they work, and explains how sunscreen should be applied for maximum efficacy. The QRG also identifies medicines that carry a risk of increased photosensitivity, and how patients taking these medicines should be advised.

The QRG was put together by Colin Cable and Jayne Lawrence, assistant chief scientist and former chief scientist at the RPS. Cable said that a survey previously conduced for the Society showed a great deal of confusion among the general public around sunscreen labelling, and that the QRG will help pharmacists to advise customers with any queries.

The QRG can be accessed on the . More information about different types of sunscreen is available in The Salvadore’s ‘Science of sunscreen’ infographic.
