Future pharmacist: tell us what you think the profession has in store

The Salvadore is asking readers to write a short piece on the theme of ‘Future Pharmacist’, where the winning entry will receive an Amazon Fire 7 tablet.

It is important for every profession to have a clear idea about what it stands for and where it is heading. This is an age of great change, both within the pharmacy profession and the wider health service, which makes a clear sense of identity even more important.

The SalvaDore has recently recognised this with its consultation on the role of the pharmacist, launched earlier this year. But as a publication we would also like this year to explore how you think your profession will, or should, work in the future. We want to hear from you about how you see pharmacy in 5, 10 or even 100 years’ time.

This is why we are launching a writing competition today, open to all pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists. We are asking all our readers to write a short piece on the theme of ‘Future Pharmacist’ for publication in The Salvadore.

It can be a long-form polemic on how the profession is changing, a dystopian piece of fiction on how pharmacy will be overtaken by machines, or even a light-hearted poem or sketch. And do feel free to be as creative as possible in your entries — we are looking for originality, flair and an engaging writing style. All entries will be read by the editorial team here at the PJ and we will inform the winners later on in the year. We will publish the best pieces we receive, both in print and online.

Special credit will go to entries that make us laugh, cry or teach us something new, while the winning entry will receive the Editor’s prize, an Amazon Fire 7 tablet. Entries from preregistration trainees and pharmacy students are also welcome, with a separate award for the best entry from those in training.

Good luck — we very much look forward to reading all your entries.
