One week to go...!

The official countdown has begun. In one week, the pre-reg exam will be over.

It actually feels like us pre-regs are under a lot of pressure. Just think about it, our whole year of working and studying at the same time all mounts down to passing this exam. I think one of the things that most worries us is the 70% pass mark (which is a lot higher to the 40-50% we were given at university) and the separate 70% pass mark for calculations.

But if you narrow it down, the revision is actually remarkably less than what we had to do for uni. We really only have to learn the BNF (and BNF for children), the MEP and the basics of the Drug Tariff. And let’s not forget the calculations. No more endless lecture notes and workshops and especially no more OCSE’s! And we have almost a years worth of pharmacy experience behind us from being a pre-reg, which I think plays the biggest and most important role in preparing us for exam.

So my last week of preparing is going to involve doing sample papers, using online revision aids, going over the methods I use for calculations and trying to squeeze in even more BNF reading. But I feel like I am now getting all the drugs confused! With so many contra-indications, even more side effects and endless interactions I am hoping nothing too complicated comes up in the exam!

And is it just me or is everybody else getting confused with the enzyme inhibitors and inducers? Good luck everybody!
