Regulator meets all scrutiny standards for third year in a row

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has met all the Professional Standards Authority’s (PSA) Standards of Good Regulation for the third consecutive year.

The PSA oversees all nine health and social care regulators, and its for 2017/2018 covered areas including council papers, fitness-to-practise reports, audit committee reports and business plan monitoring reports.

The PSA report highlighted ways in which the GPhC is meeting the PSA’s standards for good regulation, including by widely consulting with stakeholders in developing guidance and standards and by ensuring that education and training for pharmacies, pharmacy technicians and the unregistered pharmacy team were appropriate and relevant.

Duncan Rudkin, chief executive of the GPhC, said recognition by the PSA “gives important assurance to patients and the public that we are working effectively to make sure they receive safe and effective pharmacy services”.
